Sometimes the stars I see are bright. Somewhere above the clouds that night. Thinking about, about stuff, Walking around, around the club.
Cobalt eyes stared out into the distance. Darkness surrounded her, yet with the help of the moon the ocean seemed to glow. The sand held a sort of warmth that impassioned the bones. Kazzie’s grip on the rail tightened as she leaned onto it as she surveyed the area. The beach was completely empty, as it should be. She glanced down as her watch and squinted to read the small metal parts. One-thirty am. Again glancing out at the beach she sighed. What was she doing out this late? She’d been at a party, like always. Now here she was. With a soft grunt she pushed herself off of the railing and turned to walk down a small ramp. Slowly concrete met with sand before reaching a sea of small particles.
Kazzie knelt down and unbuckled her wedges before gently stepping out of them. Her feet cried in gratitude finally back into their natural position. Picking up the white shoes she stood once more before descending across the beach. The sand was warm and it sent small shivers up her spine as the wind danced gracefully across her sunkissed skin. This was probably the best part about California. Slowly her heart was warming to the strange state so far from home.
Home. What was home? Surely it was where her heart was, but where exactly was that. Without an expression she found a spot on the sand not far from the water. The air was crisp, yet warm. She could feel the heat rolling off the waves as it caressed her body. Her mind yelled for her to strip down and plunge into its depths. Seek a thrill, be bold, be dangerous. But she knew better, and had consumed one too many alcoholic beverages to swim properly. Her chuckled softly at the thought of her flailing limbs trying to swim.
Kazzie stretched her sore limbs earning a pop or groan from her bones and muscles. Being able to go to the beach whenever she pleased was something new to her. She was used to the concrete jungle full of life and bustle. Here, things were relaxed and never rushed. She wasn’t sure how she felt about it yet, still adjusting from the change in setting. Kazzie ran her fingers through the sand, its course texture refreshing. She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, the smell of salt filling her senses.
Kazzie opened her eyes, her long red hair falling over her shoulders in a waterfall of color. She liked it here; here she was a nobody. People didn’t classify her by her family’s fame. Here no one knew that her father and grandfather ran the law in NYC. She could do what she wanted without disappointing her parents, because she didn’t have any. The people here were nice enough, but she never conversed in school. She ignored lingering stares or hateful female glares. She didn’t care enough to let it affect.
Red lips pursed as Kazzie stared out into the distance. This was going to be here home for a while, or so she hoped. College was the next step, but what to do? She had always planned on being a lawyer, but now she wasn’t so sure. Maybe she’d become famous for her talents or lack of. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. This little city had been a surprise. Hitch hiking across the country was no easy feat, and in a way she was very proud of herself. Kazzie wondered if she’d live here for the rest of her life- grow old and have kids. It was quite an amusing thought by itself. The future was never certain, and in a way it scared her. But life was much too short to live scared. It was why she sought thrills and pleasure, enjoying the simple things in life. She looked down at her purse. She glanced about her, she could light a bowl and know one would ever know. It was very tempting.

In the night, McKenzie found herself often enough found herself unable to sleep. It wasn't because of school, she didn't know what it was. She found herself on the beach some nights, while some nights she just stayed home and tried to find something to do. Usually the internet, but she was sick of that.
The soft sounds of the ocean lapping against the sandy beach, the beauty of the night, she had made the right decision as she walked down the beach. It was so peaceful here; warm, and lovely. She listened to the waves as they came upon the sand, finding solace with the black sea, the moonlight, and herself.
It was like something out of a romance, she decided. She was alone, she had nobody in her life like that, but still, those thoughts came to mind and she couldn't do anything about it. She found herself smiling and looking out at the black sea as she walked along alone.

Here tomorrow, gone today What I had slipped away It’s gonna be the last time you hear me say Here tomorrow, gone today
Again blue eyes darted across the beach, not a soul in sight. A smirk graced her lips as she pulled her purse into her lap and rummaged through its contents before she found her care kit. Her ‘care kit’ held various items from a small bowl to rolling papers and filters. Pulling out her grinder and bowl she took special care not to drop its contents. No one was around, so no harm done. Quickly she packed the bowl partially not wanting to spend the next few hours somewhere else. Pulling out her infamous USA lighter she progressed to smoke till it was cashed. Smoke filled the air before being whisked away by the ocean breeze leaving no trace of its actions.
Out of muscle memory, Kazzie put her kit away and pulled out a bottle of tea she’d brought with her earlier in the night. Her senses felt heightened, and she felt more aware. The soft burn in her throat subsided and soon she was floating. Her muscles relaxed and for now everything was right in the world. She didn’t have a care in the world, and that was quite alright with her. She fell back against the sand, stretching out once more. The night seemed so perfect now. It felt like she could feel the waves crashing against the sand. It was a beautiful feeling.
She didn’t understand societies view on drugs. It was only a matter of time before it was legal, they couldn’t fight it. They thought the same thing when it came to alcohol, and in the process America created organized crime. They’d learn one day. Kazzie preferred being high to being drunk any day of the week. She never regretted her actions and it never made her sick. But she didn’t care about what other people thought. She was her own person and could do what she wanted.
The people at her school were so closed minded. Half of them thought the worst they could do was sleep around. Kazzie never understood the thrill of seeking sex so openly. Yes, she liked thrill and danger, but that was just sad. Many of these girls thought that if people knew their name then it made them popular, and if you hadn’t slept with enough people you weren’t one of the cool kids. Kazzie rolled her eyes. Sex had lost all intimacy at her high school. It was because of this that she only partied at universities, and only sleeping with chosen college students to subdue her hunger.
With a sigh Kazzie stared up into the sky, the stars peeking through the dark veil of clouds. Her body felt like it was floating. This was the best feeling, like an out of body experience. In the silence Kazzie could hear soft footsteps. Sitting up slowly she glanced down the beach. There it was, a small figure walking along the beach. Kazzie had long stop caring if people came upon her in her current state. As the figured came closer she tried to put a face to a name. She didn’t recognize this girl, coming to the conclusion that this people did not attend high school. Kazzie’s legs tingled softly, something that happened occasionally while smoking. The female walked closer, but Kazzie was never much of a conversation starter. In all honesty, she didn’t have much to say to females all together.

As McKenzie walked, she spent most of her time looking out at the ocean, only taking brief moments to look ahead at any given time. To her the ocean was more important; it was a beautiful sight, and she really was glad to be here tonight, or this morning, whatever. As she watched the soft sounds of the waves lapping, any worries she might have had were washed away from her. The ebb and flow of the ocean was like life; it came and it went. Things were solved and new problems then came up. The sheer amounts of peace here tonight would be enough to drive away any worries.
She stopped, her footsteps leaving almost no sound as she walked on the soft, warm sand. There was somebody ahead of her. With no reason not to, she walked towards the girl, smiling, but she wasn't going to say anything. She had no reason to; it was late (early?) and the person might just want to be left alone, so it was better for McKenzie to just ignore her.
